“Marta was born on June 15, 1993 in Madrid. She has 1 brother and 2 sisters, also with artistic gifts.” Marta Paramo is the highest quoted Down-syndrome artist.

“My type of disability” Down Syndrome.

“My history with art” Marta started to paint at 4. She has participated in many exhibitions organized by various institutions, such as PRODIS Foundation, or Madrid City Council, where she won the 1st Prize in 2007. In 2008, Marta won the 2nd Prize of the Christmas Contest organized by the same Down Syndrome foundation. In 2008, the first time that Marta Páramo presented herself to the International Painting Competition of the Down Syndrome Foundation of Madrid, was the surprise for the Jury in their own words, formed by artists and personalities from the painting world of the category of Diego Canogar or Maria Corral, among other great names. The 3 works presented by Marta were pre-selected by said Jury for the 1st Prize that she obtained with her work "The Crest of my Hand", awarded with 1,800 Euros. In 2009 Marta won two awards in the same International Down Syndrome Foundation Contest: the 2nd Oil Painting Award for her work "My dog is a person" and the 3rd Prize in Other Techniques with the work "My Horses at Sunset". Also in 2009 her Van Gogh “Les Vessenots” Studio was selected from more than 40 participants as one of the 3 finalists in the Thyssen Foundation Contest.

In 2011 Marta was chosen as one of the 12 top disabled artists in Spain to participate in the art project "El Abrazo del Arte", which brought together the 12 most prestigious interior designers and fashion designers in Spain with the 12 Down artists, forming 12 teams to which they were assigned 12 paintings of the main Spanish painters of the 19th and 20th centuries. Each Down syndrome painter made a reproduction of the assigned painting, which was exhibited during several months in the 'Matadero' Gallery of Madrid in a stand decorated and dressed by the Interior designers and fashion designers of each of the 12 artistic teams, under the sponsorship of the top Spanish corporations. Marta Paramo was assigned the work by Mariano Fortuny, "The Children of the Painter in the Japanese Hall", with the famous fashion designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada and the interior designer Mamen Garcia de la Hoz on Marta’s team. Afterwards Marta sold her painting for 1,500 Euros, a milestone in the Art-Down, reason why she was interviewed by the famous anchorman Pedro Piqueras in ‘News at Night’ of the National TV station Telecinco, news that were also published in many Spanish media. In 2011 she exhibited during 6 months at the Gaudi Gallery in Madrid, and she was the 1st Down Artist ever invited to the 'Open Art Fair' in Utrecht, Holland (Sept. 2011)

In the last 4 years Marta has been perfecting her pictorial training in the artistic workshops of 'La Casa Encendida' and of 'Matadero' in Madrid, and she was the 1st disabled artist ever admitted in the Department of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid, within the scope of the 'Debajo del Sombrero' Association, for a small selection of disabled artists with great gifts.

Marta is a member of the associations of disabled artists 'Artistas Diversos' and 'ArteDown'. In addition to being a great painter, Marta stood out as a gymnast of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Team of her school, with whom she won the Spanish Sub-Championships and the Madrid Championship, and she was an official member of the Maite León Psycho-ballet Company during several years. Its artistic side is complemented by the sports in which Marta is a great fan of horse-back riding, skiing, padel-tennis, golf and sailing.
